Prize structure shift

  • Grand Prize size. $15,000 in 2017 (the School-of-Medicine award) and again $15,000 in 2020 per the official 2019-2020 NVC Report. Baby Box's widely-quoted $25,000 from 2020 was the combined Grand Prize plus Consumer Products 1st award. Settled at $20,000 from 2022 to 2025.
  • Standard track payouts. $4,000 and $1,500 in 2017, then $10,000 and $5,000 from 2018 onward. Roughly a sixfold jump in a single year.
  • MIE Award. Introduced in 2020 with Baby Box as the first MIE-affiliated winner. A recurring specialty since.
  • Audience Favorite. Intermittent. It appeared in 2020, 2021 and 2025. Typically $1,000.
